2023-10-06 Update 3

Weather outlook

Even though we've had some rain recently, on Saturday, it's expected to not rain at all, but be overcast, with temperatures ranging from 52F up to a high of 74F, but, by the time the event ends, the temperature will most likely not have reached 68F, so, for bodies that are busy running, that's probably perfect weather.  It also means that for those that are standing around, particularly those in the shade, it might be a little on the cold side, so, prepare for that by having layers of clothing that you can add/remove as needed.

One assignment change

I noticed that there was one station where I had doubled up on people at the station, so that has been fixed.  I believe it was station 9, so if you were at station 9, please verify your information, and see if you've been moved.

Verify your Traccar App is working

If you have not done so already, now is a great time to verify that your Traccar App is configured correctly, and showing up on the map as expected.  Please take a look at the information  below under 'Smartphone tracking' for some information on how to set it up and test.  Note: the map for this event is the one that's available via the link on the assignments page.  So, *after* you have configured the traccar app, go to the assignments page, and use the link there to open the map.  Ensure the 'trackers' option is enabled (on the 'LS' pane).  If it's working correctly, you should see yourself on the map with your callsign.

Getting to your assigned location

Having a hard copy of the area around your location is a great way to help ensure that when all else fails, you'll still be able to get to your assignment.  Now is a great time to use the tracking map (link from the assignments page) and organize it so that you can clearly make out the streets around your assigned location, and print it out.

The 'other' way to get to your location with map helping get you there is:

If you have the traccar app installed and running, you can open the map (link is on the assignments page), use the 'LS' (layer selection) to enable the 'trackers' option, find your own marker on the map, click it, and then use the 'follow' button on the dialog that pops up.  Now, as your traccar app beacons your location, the map will re-center around your location.  If it doesn't beacon your location often enough, you can adjust the 'distance' setting and/or the 'frequency' setting to your liking, to make it beacon more often.  This can then be used to help show you where you are in relation to the course and your assigned location.

Tee shirts and dash signs at Denny's until ~6:45AM

I have received confirmation that tee shirts and dash signs will be provided, so, expect to find those at Denny's from around 5:30am until around 6:45am.  I will be there, doing check-ins and tee-shirt distribution.  If you want to also mix and mingle, and perhaps order some food, you're welcome to do that.  After around 6:45am, I will be heading to the central fire station, and taking the tee shirts with me, so Denny's your opportunity to get your tee shirt (unless you are assigned at net control).  If you arrive at Denny's before 5:30am, that's fine if you want to do that.

2023-09-27 Update 1

Documentation

Documentation for the event is available at:  https://www.woodlands-event-comms.info/10-for-texas/documents

Please, read through the procedures document, it's not long, and it might have information that's useful!

Still room for more to join us

Yes, there's still plenty of room in the assignments for there to be more people with us.  If you can continue to share awareness of this event being available, that would be great!

Now is a great time to charge and test your radio equipment

Most people involved will be using hand helds, so now is a great time to make sure your batteries are charged and holding a charge, and otherwise functioning properly.

Smartphone tracking

Yes, we will be using the Traccar smartphone app to feed my tracking / map solution (ERTRAK) your location, as a help for net control to help make sure you're on station, and, if, for any reason you need to go off-station, we'll have an idea where you are!

Other resources involved in the event will be using the map too.

Note: While the traccar app configuration details are largely the same as before, the server URL has changed, and it should now be set to: http://traccar.ertrak.uk

More details are available regarding setup of the traccar smartphone app and  how to use the map.
